nyfw faves and and amazing resource...

proenza schouler, photo from
i didn't make it fashion week this year.  i was sick in bed all week with a REALLY bad cold, sneezing chills and whatnot.  the timing couldn't have been shittier.  very un-attractive.

however, i didn't feel so bad about it after my amazing friend forwarded me this link

it's an incredible resource, where you can see all of the spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear collections at a glance.  i was following on twitter and instagram, so i saw a lot of the front row looks as they were coming down the runway in real time.  i liked so many of the new collections, for many different reasons.

from a design and structure standpoint, Altuzarra and Yigal Azourel were amazing. i loved the textures and fabrics at Proenza Schouler...Thom Browne and Rodarte both stood out to me just as pure visual enjoyment...and Band of Outsiders and Y-3 are always perennial favorites of mine.

what designers are your favorites? let me know and as always thanks for reading x

long overdue post | apologies | key pieces & something i'm really excited about...

it seems every time i make one of these posts, i'm apologizing for not updating this blog as often as i should. of course i have a lot of excuses.  i've been busy, things are hectic, i've been sick, etc etc etc.  i also have a ton of DIYs in my queue and i haven't been able to get to them for ^....... (see above)......^

this season, there are so many designer pieces i'd love to get my undeserving sticky little fingers on.  starting with this:

#1 Swedish clothing company, Acne Studios, has this amazing bomber jacket, which goes straight to the top of my a/w '13 wish list.  i'm in love with the over-sized pieces trend, it's one of my favorites for its utilitarian, androgynous work-wear influenced styling and color, you guys know how much i LOOOOVE uniforms.  i think i would wear this until it literally fell off me in threads.  i just love it.  i like styling these with more clingy, feminine body-con pieces like a pencil skirt and a snug-fitting tank or knit. this is around $500.

#2 a pair of leather sweatpants.  these are from msgm, another of my fave designers.  there are quite a few cheaper versions of this on the market right now, but if i could have my way, i'd invest in these.  unfortunately (but fortunately for my credit card hee hee) they are out of stock in my size.

#3 The cut-out ankle shoe / boot.  ok, so basically everyone has a version of these right now.  (jeffrey campbell, steve madden, aldo, topshop, etc) but these are my favorite (balenciaga).  they remind me so much of the 90s, and i love how everyone is wearing them with those babydoll dresses and florals as well as flannels and jeans.  these are quite pricey (over $1K). and of course they're my faves, so i may have to find a cheaper alternative if i want to eat for the next 7 months...;l

#4 if you're like me, nail polish has kind of become a wardrobe staple all its own.  this is my top pick for the fall - textured polish - and DL does it right in this "Punk Rock" collection (l -r : 'pretty vacant', 'i fought the law' and 'i wanna be sedated' ummm, i kind of want to buy these for the names alone, pretty smart, ms. lippmann....)  these are around $17 and you can get them online, and in blue mercury.
#5 i've never been a fan of "bags" in general, and i've never really paid a lot of attention to "it bags" and whatnot, in fact i think the whole concept is pretty insane...however i am usually looking for something cool to put all my crap in, so i'm kind of thrilled that we're jumping on the 90s train again with the ever-useful and utilitarian backpack.  this is kind of a must for any urban dweller.  and this one, is an eastpack collab with NYC retailer-extraordinaire, opening ceremony, in preeeetty, shiny silver.  ooooh.  (i mean, i see girls in the subway with 5 inch platforms and cute bags - MORE POWER TO THEM, i JUST CAN'T DO IT, believe me, i have tried ;)

#6 a big, chunky sweater in an unusual shape. (like this 'cocoon' one from jil sander). gorgeous! this is a wool and cashmere blend, and you could wear it with your msgm leather sweatpants you spent almost a week's salary on, or with skinny disco-shiny leggings, or with a tailored pencil skirt.  i would probably wear this without jewelry, but a statement bangle, collar, or chunky necklace would also work really could also do a grandpa cardigan, big over sized, slouchy turtleneck, or a boyfriend coat...

#7 anything flannel.  it can be you dad's or your bf's old shirt, or this one, from j.crew, or flannel pants, or a flannel nightgown that you wear with a leather biker jacket and those balenciaga boots you spent your monthly rent on...tie this shirt around your waist, wear it over your shoulders, put it on over a printed t, with a leather jacket and ripped black skinnies....

#8 a cool hat.  cool hats are always in style, but it seems like there is more of an emphasis on them this fall.  this black fedora is by karl lagerfeld (wool felt) and you can get it on  (rag&bone also has a really nice one).  you don't have to get a fedora either, i've seen those little boaters everywhere from h&m to ASOS, and they're all really cute.

#9 the boyfriend coat.  this one is from chloe.  i love coats.  if you life in a place where it gets cold, you know what i'm talking about.  i kind of hate winter, so i have to make sure i have a lot of warm coats to keep me comfortable and that i won't get sick of wearing after having to put them on and take them off for the 99,999 time over the how you can just throw them on over anything and they instantly make you look pulled together.  they're not to hard to find: ASOS and topshop both have them, and if you have a good eye, you can certainly find them in your local thrift store, which is where i bought mine last year.  just make sure you get the sleeves, hems and darts tailored to your proportions, if needed, so you don't look like you're a homeless person. (like me).

#10 a piece of jewelry that will become your 'statement' piece.  make sure it's comfortable and easy to wear.  i love this "ID style" one from Maison Martin Margiela.

and, speaking of MMM; there is this little collaboration that i am really super excited about!!!!

converse, and maison margiela??? i really like converse to begin with and MMM is a designer that i've learned about recently, and really like, so i'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

so those are some of my top picks for this season, and i am so sorry to see summer go.  i actually have no idea where it went.  what's on your wish list? let me know and thanks as always for reading xxx <3333
